In this extraordinary book, Cesar A. Preciado-Cruz reveals a truth that some people do not want to hear, talk about, agree, or even agree to disagree. He keeps it real, and his words are rich with poetry and an inspiring history of LA RAZA ("illegal aliens," Mexican, Chicano/Xicano, Latino, "wetback," Mexica, Indigenous, etc., whatever you want to call descendants of the original people of Anahuak).
Revenge of the Illegal Alien is a treasure chest of exciting information. Cruz AKA Teolol is a spirit-warrior, poet, and revolutionary. This book belongs in every home, sweatshop, school library, clinic waiting room, and mechanic shops. Remember the struggle of la gente or learn it and continue to walk humble with love and respect. A window on reality

a reality that most people never see--the daily lives of working class people of all colors in the large urban centers of the United States. this is the subject of cesar cruz's acute poetic vision. cruz is exhausted by the hypocrisy of a society that promises equal opportunity for all but constructs glass ceilings that lock most of our youth out of college and on a fast track to the lowest ranks of the military or jail (even in the Age of Obama). it's not about "white people" as much as it is about abuse, exploitation, and the lingering systemic racism that just reared it's ugly head against Mexicans and Latinas in the media reaction to the swine flu follies and the Supreme Court nomination. Don't be afraid of cruz. he will teach you what life is like on the mean streets and force you to understand that our only hope for a better world is our youth.

(ii) I promoted the use of collocated actuator/sensor pairs whose potential, I thought, was strongly underestimated by the control community. (iii) I emphasized control laws with guaranteed stability for active damping (the wide-ranging applications of the IFF are particularly impressive). (iv) I tried to explain why an accurate pred- tion of the transmission zeros (usually called anti-resonances by the structural dynamicists) is so important in evaluating the performance of a control system. (v) I emphasized the fact that the open-loop zeros are more difficult to predict than the poles, and that they could be strongly influenced by the model trun- tion (high frequency dynamics) or by local effects (such as membrane strains in piezoelectric shells), especially for nearly collocated distributed actuator/sensor pairs; this effect alone explains many disappointments in active control systems.

Daniel Cunningham is associate faculty for instruction in the Defense Analysis Department at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, CA. He is also a research associate in the Defense Analysis Department’s Common Operational Research Environment (CORE) Lab.

Sean Everton is an associate professor in the Department of Defense Analysis and the co-director of the CORE Lab at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, CA.

Philip Murphy is an assistant professor and the director of the Mixed-methods Evaluation and Training (META) Lab at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in the Graduate School of International Policy Studies and a research fellow at the Naval Postgraduate School’s CORE Lab.

"Hurd offers a representative survey of 29 women who became directors in a film industry (both in the US and abroad) that never welcomes women directors. She begins with Dorothy Arzner, who transitioned from silents to talkies and directed 17 Hollywood films, and Ida Lupino, an accomplished actor who directed films noirs and other film genres along with many television shows from 1949 to 1966. Toward the end of the 20th century, Hollywood was finally accepting women directors for mainstream films, and in this era Hurd discusses Nora Ephron, Kathryn Bigelow, Mimi Lederer, and others. In looking at independent, experimental, and documentary film, Hurd lists experimenter Maya Deren, Mary Harron and her wonderfully bizarre films, and documentarian Barbara Kopple. A chapter on international film highlights Jane Campion, Agnes Varda, Leni Riefenstahl and her beautifully edited Nazi documentaries, and Lina Wertmuller with her satiric comments on masculine ego and its drive for power.
