El escritor argentino Jorge Luis Borges en una de las conferencias dijo que Carlyle:
Cuenta la historia de un amor malogrado de una mujer joven, quien abandona a su novio dej�ndole a solas con la noche. Luego describe conversaciones con este fil�sofo imaginario, insertando a la vez largos extractos de un libro que nunca existi� llamado Sartor, el sastre. Naturalmente, como el editor es el que da los extractos de ese libro imaginario, esto explica el t�tulo de la novela: El sastre remendado.

Carlyle emplea un estilo literario que puede ser exasperante para muchos lectores. El estilo es oscuro, irreverente, extra�o, exc�ntrico, y a menudo francamente socarr�n. Tales aberraciones literarias ofendieron a lectores exigentes que encontraron en la obra una visi�n atea, adem�s de otras ideas perniciosas.

Dejando en claro en primer lugar que los comentarios que siguen son absolutamente subjetivos, he de reconocer que este libro considerado un texto can�nico por muchos cr�ticos literarios, a mi no logr� atraparme. Quiz�s aluda a cuestiones que se me escapan completamente, pero toda esa larga disquisici�n acerca de la "Filosof�a de los Trajes" y de su famoso impulsor, el Prof.Di�genes Teufelsdr�ckh, aun cuando no sea completamente desatinada, para mi gusto no alcanza la profundidad sat�rica o cr�tica que justifique el tiempo invertido en la lectura del texto.Me permito suponer que puede ser un texto interesante para estudiosos de la literatura inglesa, pero que carece de la vigencia de muchas otras obras de la misma �poca.

Great book for all NICU RNs

This is a book full of realistic scenarios of the post-resuscitation, pre-transport time period of neonates in the NICU setting. The acronym makes it very easy to recall which steps are your priority at which point during the process of stabilizing and continuously reassessing the neonate. I went to the STABLE course as well, which I HIGHLY recommend for all NICU nurses. Very informative. I learned a LOT, and it's applicable to every shift. I bought the book to help reinforce all the information we learned in class.

I bought this book to go along with the STABLE course offered at work. I learned an immense amount of information about NICU infant care. I would recommend this book to all new nurses or those who just want a refresher.

Experience a New Freedom in Your Relationships with Men

Barbara De Angelis is obviously an expert on male-female relationships and as I read all her books I realize how much she has gone through to write such helpful guides. She bases her ideas on surveys and personal experience.

The start of this book is mostly about changing yourself so you become more confident, stop mothering your man and stop nagging constantly. By irritating your man less you get a better relationship instantly. Then you can work on deeper levels of communication because your guy will actually be more interested in talking to you. Barbara De Angelis gives very good advice in this area too. She especially advises you to tell a man what you like to talk about and then stick to a plan. Basically leave the aimless conversations for when you are with your female friends or with a man who has a large corpus callosum. I personally find it more easy to talk to a man who is artistic.

This book has some good tips on how not to rescue men and how to allow them to grow and evolve because they want to, not because you force them to. Barbara talks about how you should get your own life and seek support amongst female friends. As she says: "Men will never be women."

Some of the surprising things in this book include the topic about reasons men want to have sex. You should also avoid asking a man what is wrong and asking a man how you look - especially if you want details.

Barbara DeAngelis did men a favor when she wrote this book almost twenty years ago. This is an excellent pep talk for women who are fed up in their relationships. It gives women the power to change their relationships for the better all while allowing men to be men. This is not a book about changing men but rather a book that seeks to explain why men react the way they do. By making slight adjustments women can gain the love they need and deserve.

Reading this book made me appreciate my husband more. I especially liked her advice on being straightforward with men. She suggests that when you are feeling upset you tell your man exactly what you want from him at that time. This saves hours of wasted time and gets you a faster result, especially if you want to avoid fights. Barbara DeAngelis encourages women not to think of men as mind readers.

For the most part this book seems to be quite accurate so the only problem I had was that some of the solutions didn't take temperaments into consideration. A more outgoing partner may find it easier to plan events or take charge in various ways. This book does tell some secrets about men but it also explains how women act and react in relationships. I thought the section on sexuality was enlightening and men will love the advice when it is put into action.

I have begun reading this book. Hoping to better understand my husband and improve my love for him. So far, I have seen her samples in other's I have known, but little applies to my husband and I. We have not had multiple relationships with others outside of our marriage and I'm not sure how helpful her findings will work for us. I'll have to let you know when I finish the book.

The book has great information but it is things we already know. I thought it was going to be more in depth information so I found this book very boring. I would recommend this for a young girl just starting to seriously date but not for someone who has been married for sometime

About the Author

SHELDON NATENBERG is a well-known author and lecturer on options. He began his trading career in 1982 as an independent market maker in equity options at the Chicago Board Options Exchange. From 1985 to 2000 he traded commodity options, also as an independent floor trader, at the Chicago Board of Trade. Since 2000 he has been a member of the education team at Chicago Trading Company, a proprietary derivatives trading firm.

Buy the 1st Edition! The 2nd Edition is ruined with basic errors.

In terms of content this book was outstanding. It provided great examples for a beginner learning options for the first time. I have taken a few option courses before and his strategies, techniques and terminologies were helpful. They were a little on the beginner side but as a market risk professional I will not that against him as he described the book as the "first book that new professional traders are given to learn the trading strategies and risk management techniques required for success in option markets." Given that it was outstanding.

Now the reasons for the 1 rating: Simply put, the book is filled with basic 101 mistakes:
1) Simple mathematical errors such as multiplication versus addition occur throughout the book's example
2) It appears he overwrote examples (from the previous book?) with new numbers but he only partially updated the example at times. For instance: he will have 3 positions with a strike price of: 70, 75 & 80 and out of now where he ends up using 70, 75 & 65 for his three strikes.
3) He has several typos in which he states one thing twice and then the direct opposite a second later (usually the example is wrong).
4) The quantity of errors is surreal as makes you question the integrity of the book as a whole.
5) I would not say it is "advanced strategies and techniques" but beginner to intermediate strategies and techniques.

While I found this book to be a good resource (since I placed the emphasis on the ideas and terms, not the examples), I would not recommend it as your first book (which he described it as). Based on the reviews of the 1st Edition, I would say buy that book as it may be the best book for options. If he spent the time and provided good examples, I would give this book 5 stars and say it was a must have for ever collection. But the errors occur too often and they break down at a basic level. For a basic book that is heavily flawed, I saw it should only be rated a 1. If I did not have prior experience in options (academic courses and professional experience), I would be confused. Fortunately, most of the mistakes that he makes are quite obvious and you should be able to correct them on your own even if you are learning it for your first time. Overall, I say buy the 1st edition and avoid this book like a plague. Overall, if he would have read the book over, he should have been able to easily catch his mistakes. It's a shame he did not take the time to review the book to make sure it was written correctly. I've very disappointed in Sheldon Natenberg as his first edition was consider the bible of options (still is). 2nd Edition was a complete failure.

A Must For Anyone Considering Trading Options

This book is considered the "bible" on options implied volatility. Natenburg was a pioneer into this study decades ago, and his work is still relevant today. Anyone who is thinking about trading options should add this book to their library. This book covers everything from the Greeks, the Black-Scholes model, binomial options, to hedging with options, and much more . . . I recommend reading this book with pencil and graph paper in hand to work through some of the concepts to make sure you fully grasp what you are reading; the writing style is clear (if somewhat dry) and the author has no problem communicating his knowledge and fully teaching the reader the concepts, but this book builds on itself quickly and if you are unsure of some concept early on, and don't correct it, you will probably be lost in later sections. Although this book covers the fundamentals of options and normal distributions/standard deviations; it would greatly help knowing the fundamentals of the aforementioned concepts before reading this book to fully grasp the information presented.

I'm sure my questions about bitcoin are not unusual, so I was looking forward to having the whole concept explained in understandable terms. It's possible that that's what happened here, but to be honest, I didn't stick around to find out. Every time Geissinger began to address an aspect of bitcoin, he'd take us on a lengthy diversion into American libertarianism, the history of mortgage defaults, or some other topic. I'd lose interest and skim through to see how that affected the development of bitcoin, but eventually gave up. If you want a fairly concise and unbiased (Geissinger is a big fan of bitcoin so has trouble explaining the risks without dismissing them out of hand), John Lanchester has a great article in April 21, 2016 London Review of Books, titled When Bitcoin Grows Up. Explains the history, the risks and benefits, how it's used, and where it might go from here.

Stranger than fiction

My reaction when I started reading news articles about "bitcoin": wait, can they DO that?

I've been bemused ever since, and then when the collapse suddenly happened, we all started to read about some elusive Japanese dude named Satoshi Nakamoto, possibly a fictional person or at least a nom de guerre. The story took on a surreal aspect. Even if you were a genius novelist like Tom Clancy, you couldn't come up with this stuff--Nakamoto, the reclusive (fictional?) genius who invented true electronic currency Bitcoin; Dread Pirate Roberts, drugs, hackers, drugs, counterfeiters, MURDERS, and a guy who acted all na�ve innocent but ended up with a massive jail sentence for providing Silk Road.

This book proves, life is STRANGER than FICTION.

Everyone needs to get up to speed on what may eventually become the future currency

- Starts with a quick lesson in fiat currency and libertarian philosophy.
- I learned about cryptographic principles, “e-wallets” and a “public ledger” which will be kept of all transactions.
- Dare to read about its secretive, enigmatic founder, Satoshi Nakamoto, who may be a real person, a pseudonym, or even a group of people.
- And then, of course, the Winklevoss brothers who invest in BitCoin early-on thus enabling them to make millions.
- With the increased regulation of Bitcoin, the author believes it will accelerate the cybercurrency’s eventual economic impact.

Ir madurando a pesar de todo

He disfrutado enormemente de este libro porque vas viendo crecer a dos amigas, encontr�ndose y apart�ndose, busc�ndose y perdi�ndose a ratos. En un entorno ciertamente duro, pero con dos personalidades que se desarrollan cada una a su manera, cada una en su camino, y ambas intentando no ser aplastadas por las circunstancias que las rodean. La escritora es capaz de contarlo todo desde ellas, pero tambi�n desde los otros, desde lo que ellas piensan, pero tambi�n desde lo que ocurre; describiendo a dos chicas que se van haciendo mayores, pero al mismo tiempo cuenta c�mo cambia un vecindario y c�mo el barrio forma parte y se aparta de la ciudad. Es un libro muy recomendable.

About the Author
One of the first American writers to gain acclaim in Europe, Washington Irving was also an essayist, a biographer, an historian, and a diplomat. He is best known for having written the short stories The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle, both of which appeared in the collection The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. Though he is best known for his short stories, Irving s written works include social and political commentary for the literary magazine Salmagundi, which he helped found, as well as biographies of a number of historical figures including George Washington and the prophet Muhammad. Irving died in 1859 at the age of 76.

Good read of Washington up to 7/2/1776

This is Volume 1 of a 5 Volume set on the life of General George Washington. It covers the history of his family from just after the Norman Conquest to his arrival in New York after the Battle of Bunker Hill. You learn a lot about General Washington's life, the deaths in his family and his marriage. The battles with the French are the most interesting parts (to me at least), and it really is remarkable how he came out if with such a good reputation. There is no way that could happen now. The author has the views of the Indians that you would probably expect from the 19th Century.

There are two great What If moments - What If Washington had joined the Navy or if he had gone to England. Would we have a president, without Washington?

5,171 locations - so pretty sizable. Easy to recommend. Hopefully the other 4 volumes show up on Amazon.

Excellent book on the times and life of George Washington pre Revolution

This book is excellent in that it not only covers the life of George Washington prior to the Revolutionary war but also fills in what is happening in the country not directly involved with Washington. I would recommend this book to all who are interested in the study of George Washington.

The Life of George Washington

Washington Irving has been for years one of my favorite authors. In his biography of George Washington, he is always interesting, adding various side remarks that enrich the text. Irving is a very well educated man for his day, and his language reflects his background, his extensive world travels, and his understanding of the effect on history of the various activities that George Washington took part in. Altogether, a valuable read, and since I used the Kindle version, it is readily available if I want to review some aspect of the book. I highly recommend the book to anyone with an interest in the early history of the US.
